OK, having kids is so full on. Before I had kids, I had this vision of parenthood being a walk in the park, everyone always being full of smiles and forever saying "Oh, when I have kids, I would never let them be like that..." Seriously, think Mary Poppins... and that was the vision in my head. And now here I am, reality hit me like a ton of bricks, and I find myself forever looking up mum hacks and parenting tips on Pinterest and Google, because my God, parenting should come with a manual.
So, here are a few of my favourite mum hacks...and if you have any good ones to share, leave some in the comments below.
White Noise
I never used any of these with India, but judging by how little she likes sleeping now, I doubt anything would have worked back then either... but with Arlo, I swore by white noise, especially Ewan the Sheep. Absolute LIFESAVER! Even to this day, he is still an amazing sleeper, and I don't know whether its down to Ewan, or because he loves his sleep like his mama, but either way...I'm embracing it!
Soap dispenser
You can limit the amount of soap that comes out of the dispenser by wrapping an elastic band around the nozzle, and giving the perfect amount for those tiny hands.
Children's shoes
Cut a sticker in half and place it inside your child's shoes to get them on the right feet. They just have to match the stickers up.
Barbie's tangled hair
Just comb a mixture of water and fabric softener through the dolls hair, and watch all the tangles come out!
Free back massage
OK, this is my favourite... draw a road on the back of your t-shirt and let your children play with their cars on the roads you've drawn. Kids are quiet, and you get a back massage. Win win.
Ice Lolly messes
Just poke a hole in the centre of a cupcake liner, and slip it over the ice lolly stick. The liner catches all the drips and stops all that sticky mess!
Bath toys
Use a glue gun to stop all that mold from producing in the bath toys, by gluing over the hole at the bottom. It stops the water from getting in, and therefore stopping the mold which can lead to sickness.
Command hook
Place a command hook on the back of the highchair to make sure the bibs are always on hand.
